Community Development Block Grant (CDBG)

The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program is authorized under Title I of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974, as amended.  The primary objective of the CDBG Program is the development of viable urban communities.  This objective is achieved by providing decent housing, a suitable living environment, and expanded economic opportunities, principally for persons of low and moderate income.

Butler County became an Entitlement County in 1999 and receives between $1.1 and $1.5 million annually for projects and programs which directly benefit the low and moderate income communities and residents of Butler County.  The funds received by Butler County is distributed throughout Butler County, exclusive of the cities of Middletown and Hamilton.  Both Middletown and Hamilton receive their own CDBG allocations and administer projects and programs within their respective jurisdictions.

Butler County awards a myriad of project proposals, including sidewalk installation, road resurfacing, water and sewer improvements, community center renovations, senior center equipment, purchase and installation of park playground equipment, etc.

In addition to the projects awarded throughout various entities, Community Development also administers various sub-programs within CDBG which directly impact and benefit qualified individuals, such as the Home Repair Program and the Emergency Utility Program.
