These bound volumes contain a comprehensive collection of tax records, encompassing both real estate and personal property assessments. The records span from the early 1800s to early 1861 and are replicas of the original documents generated by the County's tax assessors. Please note that the records are not indexed, so researchers must possess knowledge of the person's township of residence to locate the specific record. Moreover, a considerable number of original tax books from the early 1800s to the early 1900s are currently stored off-site due to their fragile condition. Access to these originals is restricted and can only be arranged with the assistance of a staff member or volunteer researcher.
