Drinking Water Protection

Groundwater Consortium

Butler County is fortunate to have a plentiful supply of water with the Great Miami Buried Valley Aquifer. BCWS works closely with other local water suppliers to obtain drinking water for our current and future customers. We also work with our neighbors in several ways to ensure that our supply water maintains its high quality and is free from contamination.

Our water supply has a unique protection program, the Hamilton to New Baltimore Groundwater Consortium. The Consortium is an award-winning program developed to protect the quality of our water. In part, the program uses a rigorous water quality monitoring program to anticipate any potential contaminants in the raw water. The American Water Works Association has recognized the program as one of the best in the country.

The Consortium was formed in 1991 as several water suppliers recognized the wide-spread use and vulnerability of the aquifer. As a member of the Consortium, BCWS is part of a collaborative partnership.

Each year, BCWS publishes a Consumer Confidence Report (CCR) which provides updated information about your drinking water quality. The CCR provides our water testing results and how they compare to federal and state standards.
