Reduce My Sewer Bill

Residential customers already receive automatic sewer credits during May, June, July, August and September. BCWS offers several other ways for residential customers to save money on their sewer bills.

For customers who want to receive sewer credits throughout the year, BCWS’ deduct meter programs allow customers to separately measure their outdoor water use; we will not bill sewer charges on this use.

Property owners are responsible for the costs of installing an inside or outside permanent deduct meter. Customers who use a deduct meter do not receive the automatic summer sewer credit.

Permanent Inside Deduct Meter
BCWS will install a deduct meter on the water service line inside the house after a certified plumber makes the necessary plumbing modifications. BCWS will subtract the deduct meter’s usage from the usage that the customer’s existing water meter measures. The “deduct usage” applies to the customer’s account every month.

Permanent Outside Deduct Meter
BCWS will install a deduct meter on the water service line outside the house after a certified plumber makes the necessary plumbing modifications. BCWS will subtract the deduct meter’s usage from the usage that the customer’s existing water meter measures. The “deduct usage” applies to the customer’s account every month.

This deduct meter will require a second meter pit or modifications to the original meter pit.

Portable Deduct Meter
BCWS offers portable deduct meter for residential customers only. Permanent plumbing modifications are not required to use a portable deduct meter. Instead, residents temporarily attach the portable meter to existing outside faucets, as shown below. Customers can buy a portable meter from BCWS for $75.00 (check, cash or money order).

With a portable meter, BCWS does not apply the deduction to a customer’s bill every month. To get the deduction, residents can call Customer Care with the meter reading, or bring the meter in once per year and we’ll read it for you. You receive credit only once a year with a portable deduct meter.
